Orthodontic Examination
At your first visit, Dr. Joffe will undertake a clinical examination to determine
any treatment needs and outline possible corrective
measures. This appointment usually takes about 30 minutes
and is done in the morning so that there is optimal
time to spend with you. The approximate fee and further
procedures will be discussed at this time. A report
to you and your dentist will follow a few days later
and this will have a written tentative quote attached.
If orthodontic intervention is indicated, you may wish
to proceed at this appointment with the necessary diagnostic
records that include models of the teeth, x-rays, and
photographs.
Records Taking
Once you have considered the proposed orthodontic treatment,
and decided to proceed, you would contact the practice
to make an appointment to have the assessment records
taken (unless done at the initial examination).
The basic records needed for assessment and treatment
planning include:
- Study casts of the teeth from impressions
- A panoral x-ray showing all the developed
and developing teeth, roots and supporting bone
- A cephalometric x-ray which measures
the spatial relationships of the jaws, teeth, bite,
profile and soft tissues
- Video photographs
are also taken as a record of the situation before
starting treatment

Discussion
Once we have evaluated your records, we'll arrange
to discuss your treatment with you in detail, including
the definitive cost for your individual needs. We will
also answer any questions or concerns you may have regarding
your case. Your approval of the treatment plan proposed
at that time will lead onto the actual treatment schedule.
Appointment Scheduling
Our office hours are Monday–Thursday 9:00 am–5:00
pm, and
Friday, 9:00am-1:00pm
Although there are an ever-increasing number of adults
receiving orthodontic treatment, a large number of our
patients are of school age. Because of this, we are
unable to see all of our patients in the late afternoon.
In order to serve our patients in the most efficient
way possible, lengthy procedures such as bonding (appliance
placement) and removal of appliances are scheduled in
the mornings and shorter appointments such as active
adjustments and retainer checks are scheduled in the
afternoon.
We will schedule your appointments every four to six
weeks during active treatment. Should you need to reschedule
an appointment, kindly give us 24 hours notice.
Please note that all repair appointments will be scheduled
at the earliest available appointment. Delaying repair
appointments only delays the overall treatment.
Financial Arrangements
In orthodontic cases, a designated fee is paid, depending
on the severity of the problem, for the appliances and
the services of the doctor. An additional fee may be
incurred if treatment is extended.
An initial payment is due at the placement of the appliances.
Monthly payments are due on the first of the month.
Payments will continue in the event of an extended absence,
vacation, or missed appointments.
Fees
Orthodontic treatment is an excellent investment in
the overall dental, medical and psychological well being
of children and adults. Financial considerations should
not be an obstacle to obtain this important health service.
Being sensitive to the fact that all people have different
needs in meeting their financial obligations, we are
happy to consider several different payment options.
Option A
- Plan 1: Payment in full with a fee
discount of 5%
- Plan 2: Payment ½ yearly
over 12 months with a fee discount of 2.5%
- Plan 3: Payment monthly over 20 – 25
months which can be divided either into an initial
payment (usually 20%) with monthly payments starting
thereafter or into equal monthly payments with no
initial fee.
Whatever the cost of your orthodontic
treatment, we will endeavour to make it affordable.
Just speak to one of us and we will attempt to find
a solution to any financial aspect.
